Active Galactic Nuclei studies with eROSITA

Johannes Buchner
MPE

The eROSITA instrument demonstrated its unprecedented capabilities for mapping the X-ray sky with the deep 140degĀ² eFEDS survey taken within just four days. This includes the detection of over a 20,000 Active Galactic Nuclei, bringing studies of these extreme environments around supermassive black holes into an era of large data sets. Currently, the German eROSITA collaboration explores the wealth of eROSITA X-ray data complemented with multi-wavelength photometry and spectroscopy from over a million AGN discovered in the first four all-sky surveys. This enables investigation of previously poorly understood AGN questions, including new transient phenomena, the rise and fall in the abundance of AGN from the early Universe to the local Universe, physics of luminous and super-Eddington quasars and their impact on host galaxies. An overview of activities and science highlights will be presented.
