The nearby and purely thermally emitting X-ray dim isolated neutron star (XDINS) population, currently comprised of 7 members, is key to understand the Galactic isolated neutron star population and its evolution. Utilizing the wide area and depth of the eROSITA All-Sky Survey, we aim to uncover the elusive XDINS population beyond the solar vicinity. In this talk, we want to report on the search strategy, the resulting sample of candidate objects and first results of follow-up conducted at optical energies.
