Alfred Krabbe
University of Stuttgart

This fall SOFIA will be ending its operation after about 10 years of successful operation. With no immediate successor in sight ramping down SOFIA will create a gap in the more that 55 years almost continuous history of observational far infrared astronomy. The talk will review some of the science highlights obtained with a variety of SOFIA instruments and also discuss potential platforms that may allow us to continue far infrared astronomy in the future on shorter timescales.
