In this talk we will discuss the properties of black holes in scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. When a scalar field is coupled to the Gauss-Bonnet curvature in the action, black holes are allowed to grow scalar hair, which impacts the properties of these configurations. We will consider coupling functions that allow for spontaneous scalarization and beyond. By studying linear perturbations of these hairy black holes, we can calculate the quasinormal mode spectrum that dominates the ringdown phase after a black hole merger, and we will comment on the differences between this spectrum and the one of black holes in GR. We will also present results on the stability and the hyperbolicity of these solutions.
