Neutron Star Physics based on pre- and post-merger observations

Konstantinos Kokkotas

The discovery of merging neutron star binaries 5 years ago opened a new avenue for studying the physics of neutron stars. Till now most of the information about merging neutron stars is collected by the pre-merger, mainly point-particle, dynamics and the merger signal. Still there is plenty of information that can be extracted by the electromagnetic emission of the pre-merger system as well as from the post-merger massive neutron star. We will discuss the information that can be mined from the pre-merger electromagnetic precursors, the dynamics of the post-merger remnant and their connection through a number of universal relations.
